Assigned Seating Students will be assigned a seat in the classroom. Seating assignments will be changed throughout the year. Entering the Classroom Students enter the classroom quietly and calmly, they are to put their belongings away quickly and begin the bell work. Bell Work Each day there is a bell work assignment on the overhead screen. Students enter the classroom and get started on the assignment. Quieting the Class I raise my hand to quiet the class. (each finger represents a reminder) "Give Me Five" 1. Eyes on speaker 2. Quiet 3. Be still 4. Hands free (put things down) 5. Listen Collecting Seat Work Work is collected according to the configuration of the desks. If the desks are arranged in rows, students pass their papers across their row to the left. Mrs. Hardin will then collect the completed papers. If desks are arranged in groups, students put their papers in the middle of the desks and Mrs. Hardin will collect the completed papers. Turning in Work There are baskets placed on the counter by the filing cabinets. The baskets are labeled with your homeroom teacher's name. Students place their work in the appropriate basket according to their homeroom. Notes from Home Students are to place any notes from home in the basket labeled notes from home on Mrs. Hardin's desk. Moving in the Halls Whether alone or in a line students will remain silent in the hallways. Individual students and class lines will keep to the right of the hall. Hands will be to your side, while you walk silently to your destination. Remember others are in class. Restroom Breaks Individual students are allowed to go to the bathroom one student at a time but not during classroom instruction time. Please wait to ask permission to go to the restroom until after instructional time is over. As students are excused to go to the restroom they are to write the time and sign out on the clipboard on the desk by the door. They are to sign back in and write the time when they return to class. Going to Lunch When given permission to line up for lunch students are to make one line in front of the classroom door. Please do not go past the maker on the floor until given permission to leave the room. Students will line up according to their preassigned numbers and follow procedure for moving in the hall. As we enter the cafeteria students will stay in line until they reach their destination. Students eating in the snack bar will need to join that line. Students with lunches from home will have a seat at our assigned table. The remaining students will need to join the cafeteria lunch line. Instructions from cafeteria monitors and
cafeteria rules must be followed. Students are picked up after lunch in the gym. Students are to stay in line order and follow the instructions of the monitors. Working in Cooperative Groups Students are placed in teacher chosen groups at times. They are reminded of the procedure for support groups. 1. You are responsible for your own work. 2. You are to ask a "support buddy" for help if you have a question. 3. You must help if you are asked for help. 4. You may ask for help from the teacher when the group agrees on the same question. Picking Students Students are chosen to do things in class by picking a popsicle stick from the cup. Each student's name is written on a popsicle stick and the sticks are all placed in the cup. The teacher draws a stick to pick students for a variety of things. Sending Notes Home Notes and papers to go home to parents at the end of the day are placed in the student's home folder. Students are responsible for sharing all of the notes and papers with parents each evening. When a Student is Absent When a student is absent an absent folder is placed on the student's desk. Copies of all papers passed out during class or any notes that need to go home are placed inside the folder. The folder is placed in the "We missed you" pocket on the wall. When the student returns to class it is their responsibility to pick up their absent folder and complete the missed assignments. The work may be completed in class if time allows or if the student needs additional time the work can be completed at home. Parents may pick up the missed assignments by calling the office. End of Class Dismissal The bell does not dismiss the class; the teacher dismisses the class. Students are dismissed when called upon, either individually or by groups. Transportation Students are to follow the rules while riding buses. Students are to stay seated on the bus, low voices are always used, and students are to respect school property and the property of others. |
