Project SHARP
Program Objectives
1. A minimum of 50% of elementary and 25% of secondary Cuero ISD students as well as 15% of eligible adults will participate in one or more of the project’s activities during the regular school year and in the summer program. Attendance will also be maintained for the following semester via the registration process. 2. During the last two years of the program, 60% of all targeted students and families will participate in one or more of the project’s courses activities and the program staff will have begun to help with sustainability and continuing programming years. 3. Project SHARP will result in an increase of enrichment courses and integrated academic curriculum offering tutoring, health awareness, social services, recreation, technology, fine arts, games and cultural activities which will decrease 20% of the disciplinary office referrals and juvenile crime in Cuero ISD each program year. Student participants’ grades, passing of the TAKS exam on all tests, attendance, classroom participation and knowledge of health and career awareness will increase per program year using a teacher survey and the TAKS standardized testing instrument. 4. Project SHARP will cause a 50% increase of professional development training in both content and strategies proven to be effective in out-of-school learning opportunities as measured by lesson plans, observations and specific professional development training. 5. Project SHARP will result in a 30% increase, per program year, in college enrollment of graduating students, program volunteers and will also boost career exploration knowledge of secondary students participating in after school activities. 6. Project SHARP will increase the number of students demonstrating improvements in reading, writing, mathematics, and science proficiency by 70% through the use of Compass Learning software. 7. Positive peer mentoring will increase through college work-study programs. After school programming will grant an alternative to watching television or playing video games by providing an environment conducive to positive social engagement. |
